The Hype about Da Vinci Code

When I watched The Godfather, I had already read the novel. In retrospect, it was a smart thing to do because I think I appreaciated the intricacies, the interwoven stories and the subtlities that the director had employed because of that.

The hype about The Da Vinci Code make me finish the novel last weekend, before the movie kicks in. I must however say that this was nowhere near The Godfather, just to put a perspective. There is so much rambling that after two sessions and almost three fourth way into the novel, I was just laboring to finish it off! My thought is that the novel is not as great a read as an all time bestseller ought to be. A caveat should be put though; I already knew about the things such as "the holy grail" before I read the novel, so I was banking on the pace and delivery of the writer to get me through.

That brings us to the movie. From the trailers it seems that they have tried to replicate the book. The overall plot is nice and if the director can execute it well this is going to be a kickass movie, not to mention the fact that Tom Hanks is one hell of an actor. If nothing else, the hype around the novel should carry the movie on its shoulders. I am hoping to meet some pickets when I walk to the nearby theatre this weekend.
